Every other day it seems we are given new advice on what we should – or should not – be eating, most of it seems to be the opposite of what was said yesterday!
While there are many things that are really good about pizza, you can sometimes have too much of a good thing. Your daily diet should contain the right amount of calories or kilojoules for your energy needs, as well as a good balance of nutrients such as carbohydrates, fat, protein, and fibre, which are all needed to keep your body healthy.
There are a number of ways you can select the right piza for you. Look at the base, for example. Is it thin and crispy, deep pan or even a stuffed crust. Toppings? There are some amazing vegetable toppings out there for lower calorie options, meat toppings are typically dense in proteins and fats so there's always something to suit your taste-buds and nutritional requirements.
Look on the pack front if you are buying a ready made product – or ask you pizza restaurant or delivery outlet – for information about the different salt, fat and carbohydrate levels of the pizzas they offer. At PAPA we encourage all our members to make this information available to consumers so that they can make an informed choice based on their individual dietary needs – and, in that respect, we are all very different.
No-one can make pizzas without salt, fat and carbohydrates and nor would we want to. Indulge yourselves by all means, but please eat responsibly.
